An act of kindness, what is it?
So many people in the world think they are performing acts of kindness when in fact they are doing quite the opposite.
What is an act of kindness if it comes at a price?
What is an act of kindness if your held to ransom?
What is an act of kindness if remuneration is the goal?
Is it kindness to allow someone to die pain free or is it kindness to let them die in the worst possible pain imaginable?
How is it my oldest sister can have a label of being caring and kind whilst at the same time being deceivingly conniving, backstabbing and shamefully a master of emotional blackmail.
Where does a credit card cure debt problems?
Where does providing a roof over my head absolve her of landlord duties?
As yet, not one act of kindness.

Both Pamela and I thought college would be a good idea, I'm even thinking about becoming a lecturer. Just not by going through Kilmarnock College, it is utter shit, "seriously"!! I've been to college before (Ayr College) and thought it was brilliant. However Killie College is a different kettle of fish altogether.
Who would go to a college like this?
The lecturers have to check everything they do with the Assistant Head.
Can I get the notes? I'll have to check that with the assistant head.
Can I get the assessment? I'll have to check that with the assistant head.
To top it off I find out that, all that's required to teach at HNC level is a HND, it's like saying that to teach at primary school all I need is standard grades... anyway...
Some good news for a change,

Our new Beautiful Dog, she's called Judy. A 12 month old collie cross, got her today from the
Scottish SPCA. Every capable animal owner should rescue a pet today!! Check out the website for centres in your area. Only got Judy 7 hours ago and already feels like she's been here all her life.

Well after a five year gap since completing my HNC in Software Development, I'm back at college to complete my HND on a part time basis (1 year course spread over 2 years). This time I feel more at ease, partly because I'm doing half the work, partly because this particular course is more Software Development heavy, I think something like 3 or 4 different languages are being taught. Also it helps that Pamela is going to college too so I feel I'm sharing it with her more than anything.

Bully - 12 August 06 - 15:08
From the controversial statements being made in the press about Rockstar's (Maker of Grand Theft Auto) latest game to be released in October here in the UK, you'd honestly think it was a pro-bulling game, wouldn't you?
Yeah, well your bloody wrong!
From
IGN:
Bully puts players in control of 15 year-old Jimmy Hopkins -- a boy who has just begun his first year in the New England-based Bullworth Academy, and a guy who's charged with the mission of ridding the school of a number of its undesirable elements.
From
INQ:
Director Liz Carnell of bullying.co.uk, said: "We'd hoped that Rockstar had ditched this game following our complaints about it a year ago. We don't think this game is likely to leave players with a warm and fuzzy feeling."
So what is the bloody problem with everyone, you would think that any organisation / charity / politician would actually do some research, rather than just take the name of the game and judge it. Have you never heard of "Don't judge a book by it's cover"?
I have to say a letter from someone called
Trevor to the INQ was the icing on the cake for me, brilliant letter.
Subject: Bully game
Please do more research. Rockstar has now released a trailer for the
game, making it quite clear the game is about the main character making
a stand against a school overrun with bullies.
Did you really think computer geeks (a common target group for bullies) would make a game promoting it?! LOL
Trevor
This all takes me back to the controversy over Manhunt and it's so called link to a Murder here in the UK, which actually wasn't played at all by the Killer but by the victim!
Another thing, all these games are marked as being either 18 or M, no one under the age of 18 should be able to purchase these, so shoot me if you want but to be honest the blame here should be squarely laid at the feet of the person/parent who purchased the game (I'd blame my sister for my nephew killing someone because of the game, rather than the game; because she bought it for him!). Of course that's saying that you buy into the whole video game causes violence issue that I don't, but that's for another day and another blog

Video Games, Movies & Music reflect societies downward spiral, not the cause of it!
Next they will be saying PacMan is violent... oh! wait...
already done.
Free Your Mind!

Before I start, formal warning...

I want to put forth my opinion on what I think might happen post
Vista... After claiming to have spent billions of dollars developing the next major version of Windows (Vista), Microsoft seem to be lost, lost in the wilderness as they are battered from all sides over security, malware, viruses, and now large portions of new features being drop left, right and center because of continual slippage in getting Vista out the door.
I'm asking my self, what can Microsoft do that can help Windows Security in the long term? Has Apple shown Microsoft the way yet again, by adopting a BSD underbelly or will Microsoft dump money into continually patching fundamental flaws within it's OS, to be honest I don't see even Microsoft being that stupid, though it has been know to happen, note Intel with Pentium 4.
I honestly think that within 5-10 years, Microsoft might actually bite the bullet and move to a BSD based system, just like Apple did with OS X. This would give Microsoft a great leap in Security almost instantly. They would have to imitate may of the things Apple has already done, like dropping backward compatibility with Windows 9x/NT to an emulation layer much the same as Apple's Rosetta, however with multi-core CPUs already at hand and Virtualisation being integrated into future processors, creating a 100% seamless and native speed backward compatible layer doesn't seem that far fetched, especially now.
Lets assume for one moment someone high up at Microsoft actually has the guts to put money into something like this, they would have to do something like the following:
- Switch to BSD Code (obviously).
- Either write a subsystem to enable current drivers to work, or as Microsoft has done in the past get all the hardware manufacturers to create new drivers for the system.
- Design a GUI that builds on previous Windows GUI and at least should improve upon it.
- Create a seamless virtualisation subsystem into the OS to handle legacy apps, Rosetta like but 100% native speed and 3D Acceleration.
- Have .Net 2/3+ ? apps run natively on the new system.
This I should add this would be no mean feat, but actually quite extraordinary especially if we take Microsoft's current track record, but I'd have to say worth every penny.
I know I haven't touched on where Linux nor Apple will be by this time, that is purely because Microsoft is and will continue to be on at least 80-90% of all desktop computers for the foreseeable future, unfortunately.

Well sort of according to a
/. article "
It will be returning soon in a series of direct-to-DVD 20min episodes, each featuring the past of one of our favourite characters." Though to be honest I'm not that keen on new episodes, especially when all it can do to a great series is dilute it...

However I was saddened to hear that Andreas Katsulas, who played G'Kar (one of my favourite characters from the show) died of lung cancer on Feb. 13, 2006. Similarly, the death of Richard Biggs, who played Dr. Franklin, died of an aortic tear back in 2004 and Tim Choate who played Zathras died in a motorcycle accident September 2004.

Probably not so easy as it sounds at least not in the UK, the nice people in the government want every to be working, but they're only providing help to people who are at least 6 months unemployed, anything less and you get screwed over...
Shouldn't those of us who are wanting a job be actually given help and making it worth our while to do so? Just now I've been on Jobseekers Allowance since the end of May, that makes me entitled to absolutely bugger all.
How am I suppose to pay the bills and get food?
How am I suppose to pay for basic travel expenses when I get a job?
How am I suppose to buy clothes for work/interview(s)?
How am I suppose to live?
How do you pay for driving lessons on
£45 p/week?

Shouldn't you actually pay more money to people who are unemployed less than 6 months than more, because these are the people who are actually looking? who actually want to work?
Shouldn't these very people like me be given the same help as those over 6 months unemployed and then some?
Take this scenario, young guy under 25 years old, is unemployed for a couple of months wants back into work, but most of the jobs he sees require a driving license, but the jobcentre's idea of helping is only paying for the final test not the lessons which is what costs money somewhere in the region of £1000+, not even a loan on offer

...
Manages to score a interview outside the area, no help from jobcentre here either, because again under 6 months, so no help with travel expenses or clothes, has to come off his £45 per week, again no loan for this either... Is now sitting wondering just what the fuck he's going to do... he can't live, and is barely surviving.
Take it that he was to get a job, doesn't get paid till the end of the 2nd month, at best the end of the 1st, where does the money come from to get to and fro work? food? bills? clothes? living?
Up Shit Creek Without A Paddle

I'm not asking for handouts, I'm asking for help off handouts
Even the possibility of a loan would be fine but I don't even have that much?
Isn't Great Britain,
GREAT!

Greenpeace Global Warming video made in the early to mid 90's
On Demand - 27 June 06 - 05:26
Why is it the very thing most people in the western world actually want to spend money on, no one seems to be all that bothered about releasing a service that isn't half baked?
I'm talking about on demand films, movies, DVDs!!!
We DEMAND it NOW, not in 30 mins nor in 2 mins, how is that so damn hard to fathom? A great many of us wouldn't mind paying £10-15p/m to give us unlimited DVD rentals why not unlimited streaming films. I'm not talking about the old classics that you can download for free over at
archive.org either; I'm talking about the current new releases that are out on the cinema.
This is a major annoyance I have just now, simply because all the technology required is already in place to do this. You need only look toward examples currently running, like the
Discovery Channel here in the UK £35p/annum gets you unlimited access to the shows they have online (although not everything is there).
Why can't I get this just now for the film rentals? Our local grocery shop does a small (piss poor) selection of dvds for rent, but doesn't have any of the films I may be interested, nor even the latest releases because the bigger companies get those first.
I want:
- Movie Streaming (Don't need to worry as much about pirating that they are so fond of just now)
- Realistic Price Tag (£10-15 p/m, not $10 per film, I'd rather buy the dvd for that)
- Unlimited Access (no crappy 4 films a month)
- Latest Releases (I'd live with DVD and Cinema releases)
- Able to play the films through the TV
Unfortunately I know it's just not going to happen, not until we re-establish the purpose of Corporations. Being driven by short sighted profit goals where everything is patented in that pursuit, everything becomes about the bottom line and not about Public Service from which they were originally intended.

Today, I called the doctor out for my partner Pamela who has been very ill the past couple of days and didn't seem to be getting any better. The doctor ran a test, and confirmed what he had suspected when I had phoned for a home visit. She's was pregnant, and to be honest I'm completely stunned.

We have talked about '
what if' before and agreed we simply were not ready at all mentally, physically and financially, to have a child of our own, so we agreed we couldn't possibly go through with it.
However this time it's different all the things we discussed are still the same but it's actually happened. Nothing can prepare for it in the slightest. As soon as the Doctor uttered the words, your pregnant, Pamela was the happiest I've seen her ever, which just filled me up as well, but I'm scared.
I'm honestly scared shitless. Neither of us work just now, the flat we're in only has the one bedroom, we will need to move again, to something with an extra room and we've only just moved into the flat we're in. I don't want a child of mine growing up being at the bottom of the food chain because we are living off the social. I'm scared because I'm not ready to work again, I'm scared I wont be a good enough Father.
Fuck even the word sounds foreign to me just now, Father, Daddy, Dad. Talk about life changing, a little over a year ago, I was a Geek with no life, now I'm a Geek soon to be married with a mini me on the way. I've got so much running through my mind just now, nothing is really sinking complete in, I feel numb just now, almost as if this isn't happening to me but to someone else.

I find it absolutely annoying as hell that there is no single way to test your web design than to manually look at how it's rendered within each and every browser known to man!
There has got to be a simplier way to make sure that your site looks as it was intended a cross the various rendering engines and browsers... I mean come on, how the hell can anyone work under this shit! Having to buy a £400 mac mini just to see how your design looks in Safari? Then on top of that having to install countless browsers just to see the results, and don't even talk about debugging problems within most of these!
With all the talk about Web 2.0 you'd think there was a easier way to develop, test and debug Web 1.0 across atleast the top 10 browers? Don't get me wrong with most of these there isn't much of an issue and extensions like Web Developer toolbar in Mozilla/Firefox make light work of solving rendering issues, but trying to do that in InterSMEG, LOL Good luck!!!
It would be bloody fantastic if an application came along that made testing and debugging so much easier and quicker and without the expense of purchasing hardware just to see what pages look like in Safari, obviously for it to be of any use it'd need to be available for linux, Windows and OSX.
All I want for Christmas is an application that can test & debug web designs without the need to install various browsers, operating systems, and purchasing hardware like a mac mini (Though I still want a mac mini, 'Duo Core' please

).
All within one small IDE.

What shapes your psyche? What happens to a child when their surroundings change more often than he or she would care to remember ? what effect does a mother who refuses the existence of a father, and so locking out any relationship with the child till they were 7 years old?
What happens when your mother time and again threatens to walk out and leave you and your sister alone? What happens when you have been in foster care twice, which was actually worse than staying with you mother? What happens when you move school pretty much every year? What happens when your crying, shouting, kicking for help and there is no one there?
What happens when you can't remember any part of your childhood other than the bad times? What happens when you can't keep any friends, something always seems to get in the way? What happens when your an emotional wreck in a relationship with your soul mate? What happens when every little thing can spark what seems to be the end of the world? What happens when your general mental stability revolves around a computer, because it's the only thing that wont ask anything of you, or pass judgement?
Why can't I cry?
Why can't I end it, and let everyone else get on with their lives?
What can I do to fix it?
The end result is me, the person behind this blog, this diary, this black hole.
Why do I feel so empty, so numb, unable to interact with anyone, unable to deal with life in any scale, unable to change, unable to become........

I've just been reading a
/. article on Global Warming, I've got to find some of the views quite funny but not surprising, you know how the old adage goes put two scientists in a room, get them to discuss a topic, anything, they won't agree... The same applies to anyone you'll never get to persons to agree totally on the topic they're discussing... Its life
Take
David Irving for example, the recently jailed
Holocaust denier
serves him right, he should have been hanged

Anyway back on track, only point I'm trying to say the Term '
Global Warming' sucks!!! I mean it sounds like the world will be able to have nice long summers, and everyone likes long summers
(just not me)Global warming (accelerated rapid change) is: fast, increasingly violent, oscillations of the global temperature patterns until it (possibly) settles into a different state.
It might be a new ice age. It might be a period where California is 10 degrees warmer (centigrade, that's 22 degrees Fahrenheit) than it is now.
But if you live in a coastal area - and almost all of Florida is exactly that - it's not going to be fun.

But now! I really really want a Macinteltosh Mini, why ? cause I want to replace this crappy Whine-dows box with something smaller and since Apple have released
Boot Camp means I'll be able to get native Whine-dows on the mini as well as getting to play about with OS
eX

Another plus will be I can finally get Ubuntu on a computer all on it's own, then I don't have to restart Whine-dows in order to access me email and general funkyness that is Ubuntu Linux.
All *cough* I need to get is £670 for the mini, that's for the 1.66GHz Duo Core with 1GB RAM
DDR2 SO-DIMMs are still expensive beasts, so is actually cheaper for Apple to do it. Well almost £30.63 for 512MB at
dabs.com add shipping your already pretty close to the price Apple charges no big saving there

So I've got Whine-dows & OS
eX covered, what about Ubuntu, well requirement here are very modest, no need for cutting edge hardware,
SLI, Dual Core, GB RAM all not needed

64Bit would be nice but again not needed... After having seen the
Asus Vintage-AE1 in action, very quiet machine, with built-in Graphics

so for the Ubuntu (AMD64 Sempron 3000+) System £130 inc p&p, since I don't need either the hdd, optical drive nor the memory

Total price for all this... *cough* £800

... I'd better start saving, unless of course anyone would like to buy one for me

eX 10.5 is out!)

Fixing IE '

Pamela has been making quite a lot of brilliant website templates this past while, but in order for them to be put up for sale, we've got to make them work in IE. Here lies the problem, the amount of time developing a new website design, couple of hours... time fixing rendering problems in IE, sometimes it's days!
If it weren't for the templates requiring to be used in IE, I'm pretty sure we would have no problems in putting a large banner on each and every single design, telling the user to go and screw them selves till they get a browser that conforms to the W3C standards!
To be fair IE 7 sucks too lol

Well I thought I'd write something about the state of friendship or rather lack of. It is very interesting to note how so called friends can seemingly not be interested at all, in any aspect of your life, unless it's beneficial to them. Most people might think this is a rather cynical point of view, but then most people don't know their arse from their elbow.
The reason I feel this way, is past and current events have more than shown those friends would rather stab you in the back, than help you move, never mind move a body.
"Friends help you move; real friends help you move the body"
Don't worry I haven't killed anyone, yet. There are so many instances of back stabbing to go through, unfortunately some too private to air publicly which happen to be the most damning, anyway I'll try my hand at a couple in no particular order...
- An evening out was organised for a friend who came over from the Netherlands; we weren't invited, Very nice of the so called
maid of honour to do that to us. - Conversations between me and a friend I've know since college last no more than 2 sentences, at least when I start them, he could talk for hours as long as initiation starts with him.
- Zero invitations to go visit, when I used to go visit 3-5 times a week...
Have we done something wrong? Just how easy was it to abandon us when we needed friends the most?
These are the people we thought would be loyal, life long, reliable and yet they seem to have ditched us in the gutter for no apparent reason.
So called friends, no wonder I'm fucking cynical!

I Feel Sick - 25 February 06 - 19:11
I feel sick to death, with life, and emotion...
I long to have a safe place where I feel no hurt,
yet I am part of this world,
this world is nothing but hurt...
I am sick of being pulled one way then another,
without reason and with utter torment,
I wish to return to the corner from whence I came,
But that corner is gone now...
My every thought is about someone else,
but they don't see it,
I fear the end is neigh,
but part of me longs for it...
I wish I could cure the hurt others feel,
yet I feel I am the cause of it,
I feel the world on my shoulders,
but I don't care for it...
I long for the end.

Well I am thinking about starting up my very own Open Source project at sourceforge, but I think I'd need to have at least a beta or something up for download before hand. I absolutely hate it when you see a promising project that you wouldn't mind trying and would you believe it no files to download...

Anyway, the reason to start up my own project is there are NO RESUME/CV programs available that are open source, now you'd think something like that, there would be something available but I've looked many a time, and found nothing... How hard can it be to create a XML based data file which is processed to XHTML, TXT, RTF, DOC & PDF ?
Someone has even nicked the perfect name already,
phpCV... but no code...

if you look up sourceforge for either Resume or CV you'll find lots of projects but none worth mentioning and most without code

On the up side there isn't any competition (open source wise), think it might be about time I had my very own project to work on...

Now for the geek stuff...

What I want is a simple, clean & extremely easy to use php script with the goal to create these features in no particular order :
- Modular Design
- Single Data File (XML Based)
- Ability to select which data to include in final CV, with default settings stored in the data file
- Different CV templates - XHTML based?
- Conversation to multiple formats via extensions (hence the modular design)
- Data File can be stored offline (backup & restore)
For now that's about all I can think off-hand.

So you better watch out, you better not cry, Better not pout, I'm telling you why:
The Terrorist is comin' to town.
FUD FUD FUD!!! That's what I think of the World War on Terror.
I mean come on any sane and intelligent person who reads watches & listens must see what the hell is going on in the world. Everyone is so scared about covering their own back that they don't care if the person next to them is Allah, Jesus, or even Mahatma Gandhi... actually they would probably think that person was going to kill them in the name of Allah, Jesus and mibbie even Mahatma Gandhi just to show the ironic nature of there own action.
Every day everyone is in a constant state of
FUD, just look at the
Homeland Security's Alert Level!!! never ever destined to reach the state of low... why? to keep you in
FUD.
That my friends is control, wake up and smell the real terrorists!
Another thing, ever noticed how the bad guy is never ever a white christian ??? but always some one of a differemt race and/or different religion, and yet so called white christian's are the real genicidal group but we don't want to let people talk about that...

Which brings to mind something completely off topic, your favourite, okay my favourite squirrel now has Ring Tones available for download

In true
Foamy style... if your too lazy to go to the homepage first here is the direct link to the
WAV and
MP3.

I read a lot of opinions especially through
/. about Linux being ready for the Desktop and a lot equally saying it's not... well I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.
So is Linux ready for the Desktop?
Well that depends on what you mean by Desktop, so I'll break it down slightly.
Is Linux ready for
Joe Public's Desktop?
No!
Anyone who says other wise hasn't looked at the question being asked, the question isn't is it ready for your desktop, it's Joe/Jane '
Windows' user who buys their PC from Dell, PC World, HP etc. I see this being argued a lot in the OSS community and it's simply because everyone has a different meaning of desktop.
If linux wants to take over the desktop then it had better bucker up, stop arguing and demonstrate a united front to the world, as the public in-fighting can actually only lead to public distrust. Another thing if linux wants to take desktop market share it seriously needs to look at it greatest competitor and looking at their strengths objectively none of this I hate M$ crap, I don't like M$ either but they do have 90%+ market share. You'll get no where acting like a 2 year old!
Let's look at Windows for a second what do you get out of box ?
Notepad, Wordpad, Calculator, Media Player, MSN Messenger, IE, Outlook Express, Solitaire, Minesweeper, Relatively easy to install Drivers, Easy to install software all on 1 CD.
Now what do you get via the big three distro's ? (those being
Red Hat Fedora,
Novell SUSE, Mandriva)
Same software as windows x20 but on 4-5CDs/1-2DVDs, and on top of that the recommended install for these, I'm sure requires the use of at least 3CDs worth of data and these are suppose to be the Desktop oriented distro's yeah right!!! And another thing Easy software installation doesn't exactly come as standard for these mighty three, unlike another distro which I'm about to discuss...
Ubuntu websiteIMHO the only distro currently heading in the right direction and the fact it's #1 on
distrowatch means others must agree with me.
What you get is 1CD with, Office Suite, Text Editor, Media Players, Firefox, Evolution, GAIM/Kopete (supports all major IMs), GIMP, FTP, BitTorrent Client, Archive Manager etc. all on 1CD no matter what desktop manager you choose Gnome or Kde. Installing more software via apt-get is a breeze, security updates for atleast 3 years, easy upgrade path for future versions.
Joe and Jane user don't need 20 different Text editors, 5 different office suites, a million and one other bits and bobs. Ubuntu knows this and so is making great strides into the desktop sphere.
And that's what I think!

While I was lying in bed last night an idea for a new computer game came to me, at first I'll produce it along the same lines as
Dope Wars, this will be called
Melancholy - A life and death game.
Melancholy is a game about depression and can you beat it, simple, you start the game with a random state of mind, ie happy, sad, suicidal etc

and this is shown as a score between -100 and 100.
Your aim to achieve a score greater than 100 in the least amount of time or die if your score is -100.
Once I've got the game up and running I'm thinking of selling it through my
Arch Technologies website for around $5-10, and with a bit of luck and forcing Pamela into learning flash animation a Flashed based game could be created

but hey if I had a couple of million, okay probably not millions but I'd love to have
Foamy and Pilz-E in a flash based game, man that would rock!

My problem in writing is my mind goes far too quickly for me to write anything down, in almost an instant I forget and move on to something else only to forget yet again what I was going to say...
I've got that much I want to say yet I can't seem to get the words to escape my mind onto paper so to speak. Ironic, I got lots to say but no way to say them, and on top of that I don't want to talk to anyone except of course Pamela.

Life is a prison sentence, and my room is a prison cell. The only glimmer of light in this life is my soul mate, my beautiful Pamela. We both are in the deepest despair's of depression and what does life bring us, yet more depression... I don't want to die, but tell me what's the fucking point. No one cares, really. We are stuck on this earth with a life long prison sentence, social demands, political correctness, if I had a broken leg everything would be fine but I don't!!! I have a broken mind, but no one seems to be able to accept that except Pamela because she just like me, we are the only two who know what each other's going through.
You Should Get a Job
You Should Get a Flat
You should do this
You should do that
How about you should just fuck off and leave me alone!!!
What has life brought me anyway... A mum I can't talk to, a father who doesn't listen, a doctor who just wants me as a guinea-pig for different anti-depressives, so called friends who don't talk unless they want something how about a hello please? A sister who doesn't consider me a brother, a family whose use for me is only to fix they're computers... yet after all that what keeps me here?
My little sister, Elaine and my soul mate, Pamela.
When I do go it'll be with my soul mate and we'll go quietly in the night, hopefully to a better place, if not at least we'll be together.
